Art from Last year 3

"3 that = Me"
These are the three items that define me.
A green prisma color pencil - I'm an artist that loves to draw and color.  Painting is fun too but I'm at home most with drawing, shading, and coloring with pencils and ink.
A red Lego brick - Represents how I still have the  overpowering imagination and creativity of a kid that I use that so much still.  It also represents a different way of approaching the solutions to
A checkered ring - Represents my love of black and white in fashion and my different approach in my own fashion.  I've always loved the checkered print.  I just think it's a really cool kind of retro look (and for the love of god NOT Nascar!) I always wear something checkered.  I don't wear that ring anymore, I have an awesome stainless steel checkered ring now that I wear every day.

For some reason this photo makes the pencil look really really bent and the painting doesn't look like that so it really bothers me.  However, the shadow under the pencil turned out to be just the right color I love it!

If you can't tell, this painting "When Fantasy meets Reality"  is a sequel to my previous post, the photo montague, "Toxic Inanimate Fantasy"
What happened?  The mountain came falling down!  In the midst of falling her sunglasses fell off, revealing how much she's blinded herself by choosing a material soul over a real one and life.  She's blindly trying to reach for them and find them as she hits the water.  (I had wayyy too much fun with the swirling brush technique for the ocean.  It was awesome)

This painting was supposed to be based off the style of a linocut artist. After a while of googling and trying to find the right style, I found Sybil Andrews and fell in love with his style.
(view a large selection of his work http://www.artnet.com/artist/1524/sybil-andrews.html )

Hopefully you can tell I did the waves in his style, though it wasn't easy, it turned out looking great and my trusty paint pen made it a little easier.

Next in the series is a piece I've never really found a cemented name for.  Right now I really like "Toxic Inanimate Fantasy"

Art from Last year

I'm going to be posting a series of photos of paintings and pieces I did from my previous year in my IB art class.

Here's one of them!  Enjoy!  All images and artwork (C) of me! No stealing or redistributing!

This one is "If I were a shoe..."  Sadly the glare on the photo takes away the sparkles on the "All Star".  I painted nail polish on the letters to make them look like my actual shoes.  Yes, these are a pair of converse that I actually own  and wear often.  They're out there, but still fasionable and really fun to wear.  I love to wear black and white, so the shoes fit my style and personality.  To accent the laces I made the background a roughly painted on red.

I have appeared!

Welcome To R. Barrera's Art Blog!

I have decided to create an art blog to display my various media works.  Who knows?  Maybe this blog could get me discovered.  The possibilities are endless.  I want the world to see my work and share their thoughts with me.  I want to see other artist's works too.  I get to connect to classmates in my art class through this blog as well.  So, needless to say it's quite exciting to create a blog.  I have accounts on art websites but I've never made an actual blog before.  This should be interesting.

Thanks for reading!  Have a nice day! :D
